3 Top Tips for Finding Construction Jobs back in Ireland
Our recruitment team have recently noticed a spike in interest from expat’s looking for Irish construction jobs. Our team have taken calls and enquire’s from Irish job-seekers currently located in the UK, Spain, Dubai and even Australia.
The Irish construction landscape is in a far better position than it was in 2007/2008 when it went bust as a result of the recession. Thousands of Irish construction workers sought employment abroad as there was far better prospects, roles and potential for earnings. But the tide seems to be turning, with many of our expats looking to return home.
In light of this trend, we have asked our Construction Recruitment Specialist to provide us with 3 top tips for expats looking to find their dream job back in Ireland.
1. Update and Prepare your CV
CV preparation is not something that anyone really enjoys but it is a critical component for getting an interview and more importantly for highlighting your skills. It is very important to make sure that your CV is up to date. Don’t just focus on listing previous roles and responsibilities, it is important to include achievements you made within these roles such as: deadlines you met, projects you managed under budget etc. You want to highlight why you would be a great candidate to hire.
Also, it is important to create your CV around specific roles you are looking at. Have a read over the job specifications of the role and take note of keywords that are used throughout it. Make sure to include these keywords within your cover letter and CV. These key words will catch the recruiter’s attention when reading your CV. Never just send out a generic CV to loads of companies, it won’t get you noticed and definitely not in the door for an interview!
2. Do your Research
Check online to see which Irish construction companies have recently announced major contracts they have won for up and coming projects. These are the companies that will be recruiting heavily in the near future and are sure to be looking for skilled and semi-skilled workers. If you want to move to a specific location then do your research based upon that location. Make sure to follow these companies on LinkedIn, follow them on Twitter and see what news updates they post. Social media can be an excellent way to give you real time access to announcements and recruitment drives from hiring companies.
3. Contact a Recruitment Specialist
The most important tip that can be provided to an expat looking for a construction job back in Ireland is to contact a Recruitment Specialist. A large majority of construction roles never reach job boards, large construction companies’ deal directly with specialised recruiters who have the ability to screen candidates and only send across really strong CV’s that match the needs of the job specification.
